The Pegasi's Plague - #6 Story for AAWC

Hi everyone! I am here with the sixth story for AAWC! The prompt this time around was "Smile" and I used it in my story.:) I also have a Pegasus as a character.:)

I walked through the woods, my mind wandering and thinking about all that I could. No one at the castle understood my philosophical approach to life, but I couldn't help but wonder about deep things. My companion, Azara, a Pegasus, trotted next to me, her neck dipped to the ground.
"Have you heard about the war, Azara?" I asked, my tone low as I brushed my hand on her shoulder.
Her ears pricked up and her midnight blue eyes, filled with what looked like a galaxy, gazed up at me.
Yes.
Pegasus couldn't speak, but my people had learned their language. It was all in what their eyes said.
"The King declared it this morning," I said, staring down at the forest floor. "What do you think this will mean?"
Death. War. Things unseen. Possible destruction.
"Yes, but what deeper still? How will this affect the people? How will they cope when they see their fathers, brothers, and sons leaving to die?" I questioned. I didn't want my people to suffer. "I worry about their futures. About our future as a people and kingdom."
Azara nodded her head. The future is unsure. But worrying about it will not alter it. You will always have me through tough times and times of rejoicing though.
"Of course!" I cried as I looked down at my friend. She always supported my philosophical ideas and was a good balance, bringing me back to reality when I went too far into worry. She was solemn and firm, the perfect companion for me.
"Thank you," I whispered to her. She nodded again.
When we got back to the castle, everyone was racing around frantically. I bolted to the throne room where the King was pacing in front of his throne, advisers at his side.
"What's going on?" I asked, pounding toward him. "Father, what's wrong?"
He looked at me with angry eyes.
"They are already attacking us. They have people from their land coming here and poisoning all of our animals. If we don't have our loyal Pegasi by our sides, then this battle may as well be finished now."
"What?" I gasped. "Have you closed the borders?"
He nodded. "And I have added extra guard. No one will get in, but half of our Pegasi are already gone."
"No." I sighed. Half of the Pegasi. "We need to weed out the people that have already crossed the border."
"We already have, yet the Pegasi are still falling like flies. The stables are under lock down, yet somehow they're still dying!"
"What do we do?" I asked, feeling my heart rate increase.
"We do not know what else to do."
I twirled a piece of my hair into a twist, then let it out. With a hopeless sigh, I replied.
"I know you will do what you can." I bowed quickly and hurried out to the stables. I had to see this with my own eyes.
I pulled open the stable doors after passing multiple fleets of guards and saw most of the Pegasi dead. I gasped, my eyes filling. The Pegasi were loyal creatures that everyone respected and here they lay,
I crouched down to one of the dying Pegasi and looked into its black eye, the galaxy in it faded. It shuddered as its last breath was taken and I read the single word in its eyes.
Help.
I rubbed my hand across its unmoving side and closed my eyes.
"I'm so sorry."
I had seen enough. This wasn't just food poisoning. Someone had unleashed a plague upon our Pegasi. I got up and walked out to the guards.
"Where is Azara? She was not with the others."
They looked to one another.
"She is in a separate stable. We hoped that she would not get poisoned either. She's under more protection than any others."
I nodded. "I want to take her away so she doesn't catch this plague."
"Plague?" they asked.
"Yes. It's a plague, that's why it's spreading."
"Oh," they trailed off. "The thing is, Your Highness, is that while you were gone, she seems to have caught it regardless."
"What?" I shouted. "Where is the stable?" I demanded. They pointed to the westward stable and I flew to it. I broke open the door and saw Azara lying still on a bed of hay.
"Azara!" I cried, but my voice broke. I crumbled to her side and looked into her eyes, the galaxy there beginning to fade, but she still breathed.
"Azara..." I whispered, touching her soft gray muzzle. "You promised you would stay with me." I mumbled. I felt a heavy weight on my chest.
I'm sorry. I have failed you.
"No! I have failed you. I should have done something differently."
The war has just begun, and I need you to be strong without me.
"I need you though," I said, tears wetting my face. She nickered a laugh.
You have never needed me.
I stared at her blurry face. "Don't go. Please. I love you."
Her Galaxy faded even more.
I must. Please, I need to know that you will be okay without me.
I swallowed, shaking my head.
I need to know. Eileen.
I closed my eyes. She only called me by my name if things were serious. Mustering my strength, I nodded my head.
"I'll be okay," I choked out. A smile touched her horse lips.
I love you, too.
With the same smile, she was gone, her life ended as a war began.

I'm terrible!!! Why do I keep making sad stories where people die or fade out of existence??XD I even was planning on making this a happy story, but I guess my default is I'm gonna kill as many characters as I can.XD
I hope you liked it though, I had fun making it!;)

A Broken Princess - #3 Story for AAWC

Hi everyone!:)
This week, the prompt for our stories is "Broken", I incorporated it, and I also used my team mascot as a character!:)
Amber careened to the stables, knowing it was her only way of escape, even if it didn't last. She ripped one of the stable doors open and encouraged the stallion to escape with her. He galloped out and Amber's panic subsided as she took him in.
“My, my,” she whispered, smiling. She let her gaze run over the stallion's gray-white wings, his broad chest, his indigo colored eyes that reminded her of a stormy sea. He was a Pegasus and he was hers.
She pulled herself onto the stallion's back before he pushed off into the sky. Amber's insides lightened as they climbed into the smoke smothered sky. While they made it farther above the smoke, she thought of what to tell her precious Pegasus, her mind racing with everything that had happened within such a small amount of time. But once they reached the clear sky, she didn't think anymore, the tears threatening in her eyes the whole way up forgotten. It was so beautiful, she couldn't even imagine the turmoil happening in her kingdom. She breathed in, letting the peace wash over her until she was numb. She almost felt like falling asleep, but she knew she had to face her torn kingdom. Just that morning a foreign king had waltzed in with an enormous army, wiping away her kind, small kingdom full of peaceful men and women. It made her sick when she had watched her father submit to the siege, although there was no other choice but to give in to the surprise attack. They hadn't even known that there was a threat until they heard the gun shots and screaming. Amber felt the tears creep up her throat and into her eyes again as she thought about her beautiful kingdom, broken and alone.
“Take me through the smoke, so I can look at my kingdom one last time,” she whispered into the Pegasus' ear and he nickered worriedly.
“I have to go back, even if that means-” her voice broke and he stared back at her, his blue eyes boring into her soul. “I'm a princess. I have a duty to stay for my people.”
But you could just run away. I could take you away. The Pegasus said through his eyes.
“No,” Amber said, choking on the word as her throat closed. “I have to stay.”
The Pegasus' head turned to face the kingdom below them. He angled himself to go into the thick smoke and they traveled through it, as Amber had directed him to. The terrified subjects cowered below them in the dark while soldiers stomped by. They didn't see the broken princess flying over them, her tears falling to the blackened ground.

Glazed Part Eighteen

Why, hello there!;)
I've got the next part for Glazed up! Yay!:D

How dare she talk to me like that? I was just offering my opinion! She makes me so frustrated! One minute we're best friends, the next she's biting off my head! A sudden feeling worked its way into her chest and she felt like she was going to cry, but I'm mad! She was so preoccupied with her thoughts that she didn't notice a large servant hurry past her, bumping into Emma and making her trip on her dress. She cried out as she fell to the floor when a hand grabbed hers and pulled her up.
“I was just looking for you,” he said with a grin.
“Cedric!” Emma breathed out in relief. The music started up with another song and Cedric bowed.
“May I have this dance, Your Highness?”
Emma blushed and stammered out, “you may!”
Cedric straightened and began to dance with her. They floated across the dance floor for a few minutes, then Cedric guided her away from the ball room. They walked down some hallways and he asked Emma what things she does for her spare time. She dove into the story of her coming here and what she would do when she was bored and Cedric listened to it all. It felt so good to be able to talk to someone, since Jaclynn had shut her out again. Of course she could talk to people when she went home to Cookie Doodle Land, but talking to someone in Jaclynn's castle felt satisfying, like she was doing something she always wanted to do. They continued meandering through the halls, chatting and making connections when they came to a balcony. They walked out to it and sat down on a bench.
“So how many brothers did you say you have?” Emma asked.
“Twelve older brothers! Three of them pretended I was invisible. Literally! For two years!” Cedric chuckled and Emma frowned.
“Gosh, that's terrible!”
He shrugged, “It's what brothers do. And the others weren't much better either.”
“I guess it's the same thing with friends, I think. Jaclynn and I were really close, then she just shut me out and...I don't know why. I feel like that's not right, but I don't really know. She's the only friend I've ever had,” Emma sighed and looked down at the colored glass bench.
“I would never shut you out. You're an amazing person,” Cedric touched her hand and Emma gazed into his brown eyes. He seemed to want to say more, but he stayed quiet.
“Can I say something crazy?” Emma blurted.
“I love crazy!”
“Whenever I am here, I never get to see anyone, talk to anyone, but now I've met you and I just feel like something has changed, that things are going to turn out right!” Emma smiled and hoped she didn't sound weird or cheesy.
“I was thinking the same thing! I've always been trying to find my place with my brothers, but with you I feel like I've already found it!” Cedric beamed. Emma gasped- he felt the same way!
“I can't believe it! We're so alike!” Emma cried.
“Do you want to go for a walk? I want to ask you something,” Cedric replied, slightly nervous, and Emma nodded eagerly. They walked out of the castle, to the royal garden.
“So, you said your crazy thing, now it's turn for my crazy thing,” Cedric bit his lip as he smiled. He fell to one knee and took one of Emma's hands.

“Will you marry me?”
Emma gasped. She didn't know what possessed her, but she believed she was in love with him, “Yes!”

Creating Worlds Writing Camp - Challenge 2

Hey everyone!
I am doing the next challenge for CWWC!
I am using all three of the prompts-

(I'm surprised! I think every post I've seen has used all three prompts for their story!:D)

So, this story is way longer than my last one, but I really do hope that it draws you in and makes you actually want to read it.
*clears throat*
If not, please read it anyways.XD LOL!

Lilah stared at her mother's unfinished painting. The brush strokes were so light yet placed with purpose. Lilah touched the canvas softly with a finger. The painting her mother had begun was of a coffee cup, but inside the coffee cup was the beginning of a tiny world, with a forest and birds flying. But it was unfinished, with only half a moon hovering over the forest and the forest itself had bald spots where trees should have been. Lilah had always loved coffee, even though her mom said it was bad for a fourteen year old to drink as much coffee as she did, and reading about other worlds and new places, so she felt as if the painting was somehow meant for her. As if her mother was going to paint it specifically for her before she died. But it wasn't finished, and her mom was gone. Lilah's vision turned blurry as tears fogged her eyes. She refused to look away from the painting though, and after a few moments, words began to form out of the trees and the birds she had stared at for so many days. Lilah paused.
Could her mother have tried to send her a message through this unfinished painting?
Lilah took a couple steps away and squinted her eyes, and the message began to unfold letter by letter.
Princess, my dear, hold your head high, if not, your crown will fall off.
Lilah smiled, 'Princess' was always her mom's pet name for her. She continued to read the message.
I love you, but I will be with you even when I am gone. I will be there in the memories, like when we went to the fair and rode on Glitter Bell. Let those memories be a message to you of my forever love that defies the bindings of this life. The love we have shared will not disappear when I leave, remember that I love you and Ben, and I always will. -Mom
Lilah gasped and put her head in her hands. Her mom really had made the painting for her. She knew she was going to die from the cancer. She reread the message over and over, then a new thought occurred to her.
Glitter Bell. Memories being messages. Fair.
She and her mother had always gone to the annual town fair and it had become a tradition that they had both adored. Her mom had always had deeper meanings in her words, it wouldn't be that far off to believe that this message was a clue to another message planted at the fair. Lilah hopped up and reread the message.
“It must be on Glitter Bell!” Lilah whispered, then nodded her head. The next message must be on her somewhere. It was her and her mom's favorite carousel horse, and her mom had even gotten her a Christmas ornament of a carousel horse that looked almost exactly like her.
A spark ignited in her as she read the message in the painting one last time. It was like she was still connected to her mom, to her best friend. She glanced down to her phone to check the time.
4:49 pm.
“Dang it!” Lilah muttered. The fair would be closing at 5:00. She had to hurry if she wanted to get there in enough time. She bolted out of her room and down the stairs. Her older brother, Ben, sat at the small wood dining table with papers strewn about.
“Ben! Drive me to the fair, would you?” Lilah cried as she threw on a coat over her dress. Ben's eyes grew wide.
“I thought you said you weren't going to the fair because it was too painful without mom. It was your thing,” Ben replied, standing up.
“I-I changed my mind. I need to go right now! Get your shoes on and grab a coat!” Lilah ordered as she slipped on her own shoes.
“It's too late. Didn't the fair end at 4:00?” Ben asked, looking at the clock mounted onto the wall above the pantry.
“No! It ends at 5:00, please, Ben. I need to go!” Lilah pleaded as she grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the door.
“Why do you have to go right now? It's late. Let's just go tomorrow. The fair will still be there and I'll be off of work by 1:00,” Ben suggested and pulled away. Lilah shook her head, feeling tears bubble up to the surface. She shook them away, wondering why she was feeling this way.
“No. I need to go right now! I can't wait another night,” Lilah responded. She wouldn't have been able to sleep knowing that her mom had a message waiting for her. She had to feel like her mom was still with her.
“What's so important that we go right now?” Ben asked, staring at Lilah. “Are you okay?”
Lilah glanced at the clock.
4:56.
“I need to go! Don't drive me then!” Lilah shouted and raced out the door. She knew the way to the fair. She didn't need him to take her. She sprinted down the street, not daring to look back. Her wavy golden hair flew behind her as she zipped past and towards the fair. It was just down another street, then to the right and she would be there. She would have another message. She flew to the fair and stopped at the gates. A man in a striped shirt and slacks was letting the last stragglers out and locking up.
“Wait!” Lilah screeched breathlessly, as she tumbled to him. “I need to get in there!”
“Sorry, you'll have to come back tomorrow,” the man began to close the gates, but Lilah pushed through him and knocked him to the ground.
“Hey!” He shouted and struggled up, but Lilah was already on a memorized path to the carousel, her and her mother's favorite ride. She reached the carousel and hopped onto the platform, scanning it for Glitter Bell.
“There you are,” Lilah muttered as she reached the yellow horse. It had a saddle painted red and blue and Lilah hated to see paint peeling away on the horse's pale mane.
“We are closed! Get back here!” The man shouted as he hobbled closer to her. Lilah tore her gaze from him and focused on the horse. A message had to be here somewhere! She busily ran her fingers on the saddle and looked inside of the horse's mouth, but she didn't see anything.
“It has to be here!” Lilah cried, feeling frustration clench her heart. The man stepped onto the platform and grabbed her shoulder.
“You need to leave,” He commanded, but Lilah was too busy searching for a message.
“She had to have had more to say! I can't lose her completely! There needs to be more!” She gasped for breath and the man pulled her away.
“Lilah!”
Lilah spun around and saw Ben running up to her and the man.
“What are you doing?” He shouted and Lilah squeezed her eyes shut then glanced back to the still carousel horse. She spotted the pole running through its back and noticed how it was loose and practically coming out.
“Mom has to have left another message!” Lilah cried, yanking away from the man. She leaped to the platform and ripped the carousel horse out of the socket. It came out easily and Lilah tumbled to her back. She had to get away and search the horse more thoroughly.
“Lilah, what are you doing?” Ben yelled as she ran past them with the horse dragging behind her. She banged the gates behind her with a clash and pulled the horse into a nearby alleyway. She hoped that they wouldn't find her quickly. She laid the horse on her lap and gazed into its dim blue eyes. Lilah scanned it's face and took in every detail of its saddle and body. She stabbed her fingers into the hollow part of the pole, praying that there might be a slip of paper tucked inside.
There was nothing.
“No!” Lilah wailed, resting her head on the horse's muzzle. Realization crept into her mind and a tear slipped down her cheek as she remembered the note in the painting. She had jumped to conclusions. Her mom just wanted her to know that she loved her. Nothing more. Lilah couldn't bring her back. Nothing could, not even hidden notes. She would be gone. The message in the painting whispered itself again in her mind.
She had missed the point. The point was of her mom's love. Her mom wanted her to be okay.
But Lilah wasn't.
“Lilah! Are you okay?” Ben appeared and rushed to her. Lilah looked up into her brother's brown eyes.
“No,” She said, her voice hushed as tears slipped out of her eyes and her chin quivered. “But-" She paused, "but, I will be.”

If you made it to the end- THANK YOU! LOL! I hope you liked the story!:)
