Flunked - A Book Review

Hi everyone!
I am here with a book review, but first I want to give a shout-out to Addy from Addy's Art World! She has a great blog about her drawings and such and she's really nice. Her drawings are awesome and I really recommend checking her blog out. (And she's also a huge Star Wars fan, so yeah, she's even better because of that.XD). Okay, anyway, I am reviewing...
Flunked by Jen Calonita!:)

The summary on the back reads-
Gilly wouldn't call herself wicked, exactly...but when you have five little brothers and sisters and live in a run-down boot, you have to get creative to make ends meet. Gilly's a pretty good thief (if she does say so herself).
Until she gets caught.
Gilly's sentenced to three months at Fairy Tale Reform School--where all of the teachers are former (super-scary) villains like the Big Bad Wolf, the Evil Queen, and Cinderella's Wicked Stepmother. Harsh. But when she meets fellow students Jax and Kayla, she learns there's more to this school than its heroic mission. There's a battle brewing and Gilly has to wonder just how good these bad guys are.

I had been looking at this book for a long time, but once it came out on paperback, my sister bought it, which meant got it, too.;D
I would say that this book is for all ages, because I don't remember any swear words or God's name being taken in vain, but there is some magic, so if you don't do that, don't read the book.;)
Flunked has 242 pages, is written in first person and present tense, which means that it's written as if it's happening while you read it.:) Present tense usually bugs me, but I really enjoyed the book and didn't notice it too much.
The plot is what I would consider simple and straightforward (except for a couple plot twists), it doesn't have a billion subplots inside the main plot and there aren't a lot of problems, but it is interesting and unique enough with unanswered questions to pull you in and make you finish it.
I really liked it, but I also felt like there could have been more that the author could have done with the setting. I don't have any examples, but I just thought adding more to it would have made me love it.:)
The characters are well made, especially Gilly. I think the author really made her realistic and different by making her be a huge family person but being also a "bad person".
All together, I really liked the book, it was a nice and easy read and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars, just because it didn't grab me and make me adore every little thing.;) I do recommend the book though for a book that is just for fun and not to make you go into hermitville and leave you in a blubbering mess.XD

I hope you liked the review, it's my first one so I hope to get better as I do more. Would you like to see more?:)
